Well, since I’m not going to Japan when I expected to be going, I thought I would write a bit about the application process for a job like this.
There are two major types of english teaching jobs available in Japan. One is the type of job that the JET Programme offers. You are typically embedded directly into a school and work with a Japanese teacher to develop classes to teach english as a foreign language. The second type is that done by GEOS and AEON (among others). With them you work in more of an office setting and work on developing conversational english. Instead of spending time teaching your students english like the rest of us learn a foreign language in school, you are helping them develop their spoken skills (reducing the spread of engrish is how I like to think of it). Since I haven’t gone through the JET application, I’ll just be writing about applying to the second type of teaching job.
For the conversation school job, all applications are relatively similar. They all have websites that have online applications (since they tend to have just a few offices outside of Japan, so online apps make it easier to get away with having few offices State-side). Each application will be a little different but will ask very similar things.

Aight, but it seems like you didn’t finish? What are the websites? What kind of experience are they looking for?
