I decided to post some anime- torrents (for torrents, see bottom of the post) from time to time. Mostly by one person or series. I already have some plans for the next anime- post, we will see what will come after that.
I thought, I’d start with Hayao Miyazaki. He is one of the ambassadors for Anime in the western world. Princess Mononoke I think was the first anime I actually saw in a cinema, dubbed (a good dub, not a crappy one). Maybe his characters all look a bit alike, but with emotions, he’s a magican. He without doubt can evoke the emotions in you he wants to evoke through his movies.
If you want, here is a little Ghibli-Wiki.
———————————————————————–

My Neighbour Totoro
- 900 Mb, .avi-file, dual audio, dual sub
Maybe its nothing special about this anime, no big plot, no real action and so on. But I kind of like it very much. It gives me the feeling of childhood, when things where not so complicated. Its just funny and cute, you need that from time to time.
AT first, it was only shown togehter with “Hotaru no Haka”, because the P.I.C. (people in charge) feared, it would be a financial disaster but it turned out to have many fans. Until today, the Totoros are the sign for Ghibli-Studios.
Its a new english sub, starring i.e. Dakota Fanning, so you could even watch it like that, but we all know how to really enjoy anime, don’t we?
———————————————————————–

Laputa – Castle in the Sky
- 1,3 Gb .mkv-file, dual audio, eng. sub, two parts
In this movie, I like the steampunk, the Jules-Verne-ish atmosphere. The story itself is so-so, its ok, but there are better films by Miyazaki. Still, worth a look because of the vessels (if you like that sort of stuff).
Miyazaki developed this plot some time ago. Sadamoto (you know him from NGE) took it for “Nadia: Secret of Bluewater”, Miyazaki made this movie out of it.
This is a messy one. The subtiles are correct, but they are matching the english text. And there, sometimes the translators added extra dialog, so don’t be surprised when you read text but nobody talks. On top of that, the movie is split into two halfes.
———————————————————————–

NausicaƤ of the Valley of Wind
- 2 Gb, .mkv-file, jap. dub, eng. sub
When Miyazaki made the movie, only two volumes of the manga where out, so the story is a bit different.
Its a great movie, no need for more words. If you only know “Warriors of the Wind” (ugh), go watch this! If you’re not familiar with the manga, grab it H.E.R.E..
————————————————————————

Princess Mononoke
- 1,8 Gb, .ogg-file, dual audio, eng. sub
I think everyone knows this movie already but I’ll still post it. Its about love, about man vs. nature, with some very good protagonists. It has a fast storytelling, but still has its silent, deep moments.
Here in Germany, “anime” still goes with “for kids”, so for an uncut version, you need a cinema or the internet, I bet its the same situation elsewhere.
By the way, in Japan, this movie grossed more money than Titanic AND it did not win an Oscar, because of Toy Story 2, don’t make me laugh!
——————————————————————

Grave of the Fireflys
thehe, I can’t find a torrent without registration or with jab dub, eng sub. So its just a dry run-recommendation. Miyazaki worked as a producer here, so it fits into my theme, when I thought I doesn’t ;).
——————————————————————-

Panda Go Panda
- 800 Mb, .avi-file, jap sub, eng dub
Now, this really is for kids. A panda in the house, he talks, he goes to work, he grins like Totoro, and everyone is alright with that. Okay.
—————————————————————-

Kiki’s Delivery Service
- 1,3 Gb, .avi-file, jab dub, eng sub
- – -readers choice- – - (I have yet to see this one, now is the time ;))
—————————————————————

Porco Rosso
- 1,4 Gb, .avi-file, dual audio, eng sub
For the sake of a *sort of* completeness, but I still have too see this movie, too.
.
.
Many of the soundtracks are written by Joe Hisaishi, so if you like them (I do), search for the OST’s, they are good.
——————————————————————
I the rare case someone is not familiar with torrents, you need to install a Bittorrent client. Search google for the newest, the best, the one without porn-advertisement. Then click the link, the rest will go automatically. All file-types can be played with the very sexshual, the very toyed VLC Player.

I can recommend Lupin III: Cagliostro no shiro(Castle of Cagliostro).
It was Hayao Miyazaki first movie and by far my favorite Lupin III movie/OAV.

Yeah, I didn’t know, do Miyazaki or do a Ghibli post. But since NausicaƤ is not really Ghibli and I don’t know that much Ghibli’s other than Miyazakis… this is my best^^. “Grave of the Fireflies” sure is great, a very sad movie :(. It based upon a novel, has someone read it?
But it turned out, everyone knows those movies already, and here I thought, I don’t have to post Chihiro, because THAT one is known widely.^^
Cagliostro, I know that movie. Well in the future, there will be a Lupin Sansei post, where it’ll definitely be included!

Personally I’m looking for another Kurau Phantom Memory. I wonder if the writer has made another series like this.

I still haven’t watched Miyazaki’s newest (gake no ue no ponyo?). It didn’t seem that good. I think my favorite is Maho no Takkyubin (Kiki’s Delivery Service?).

I added some more. Does anybody have a dl-source for Grave of the Fireflies??
And does someone know, why japanese people are so freaked out about pandas? I see them in every third anime/manga…

Mononoke-hime is an anime that everyone should watch. I strongly recommend it!

Oh, and I like Porco Rosso. I mean a buta pilot and a woman engineer, that’s one hell of a combination.
But so far, Howl’s Moving Castle is my favorite (I haven’t watched all).
JCAFE IS BACK…. HUSH HUSH! =D
