This is a post full of ~Artbooks~. We all added the ones we had, or found, and in the end it grew larger than we all expected – good for you!
We did the images extra large so the art can speak for itself. So make yourself comfortable, and enjoy – and then don’t forget to leave a comment ;)
We hope you’ll find something that suits your taste or (even better) you’ll like all of it!! :D
If you want to recommend an artbook that shouldn’t be missing in here, just say it.
.

Cowboy Bebop – The After (Watanabe) | mirror
Spike Spiegel and the gang, a wonderful artbook! Lots of (untranslated) text. But I think, if you watch the short additional episode 27 (was it?), you get most of the info, about earths and mankinds fate, their solar currency and so on.
.
.

Battle Angel Alita – Gunnm Complete Edition: Artbook and tech-notes (Yukito Kishiro)
This is in french. Sketches, the authors thoughts, older versions of Alita and other characters, very cool. SOME day, maybe, there will be a translated version released, who knows^^ (the workflow is slower than slow).
.
.

BAA specials (Yukito Kishiro)
Contains 3 folders. Its not really an artbook, just some additional (maybe unseen, for some people) pictures.
.
.

Neon Genesis Evangelion – Der Mond (Yoshiyuki Sadamoto)
Contains half NGE artwork, half other works. The second half is very nice (NGE doesn’t hook me up anymore…)
.
.

Nadia Bluewater – Alpha (Yoshiyuki Sadamoto)
This is just because I somehow like Sadamotos artwork (maybe because I grew up with NGE) and I also do like underwater-themes and Jules Verne.
.
.

Blame! and so on (Tsutomu Nihei)
A nice artwork of the good old Nihei times. (It containes the shortstory “Deadheads” which was translated by Illuminati-Manga in the meantime).
.
.

Daydream Note (Hayao Miyazaki)
Miyazaki drawing machines (mostly 19th, 20th century-machines, mostly war-vehicles). Very nice for fans. Much text beneath the pictures but all untranslated. (I admire the cleaners as always, how they put together some pages and simply ereased all signs of the fold).
I’d love to know what he wrote but that’ll most likely remain a mystery forever ;)
.
.

Nausicaa – Artbook, Ghibli (Hayao Miyazaki)
The first Nausicaa Artbook is a somewhat strange collection I found somewhere, I don’t even know, if the artbook is real or just made by fans. It definitely has some fanart in it, but real works of HM, too, so who cares.
.
.

The Art of Nausicaa (Hayao Miyazaki)
You have to mount the image to a virtual cd-rom drive here and then a program will start. But I bet you all know how that is to be done ;)
This is a real artbook. Lots of sketches, early drafts of Nausicaa and the envireonment. Unfortunately, the pics are rather small, because of the strange layout. BUT you have music, thats nice!
.
.

The Art of Totoro (Hayao Miyazaki)
Here, you again have to mount the image. Basically the same as with the second Nausicaa Artbook. With backgroundmusic again!
.
.

The Art of Laputa (Hayao Miyazaki)
And yet another thingy to mount. I figured out the mistake: download it, unpack it, then re-name all three files into e.g. “Laputa”. The error earlier occured because the program couldn’t operate with the kanji and katakana as file-names.
.
.

The Art of Kiki’s Delicery Service (Hayao Miyazaki)
Okay, another thing to mount. But it won’t really work for me. Music is comming, some pictures are, some not…
.
.

Plastic Little Artbook (Satoshi Urushihara) [a.k.a. the master of breasts]
This is the artbook to the 45min OVA “Plastic Little”. It contains mostly storyboards and sketches. Not very colorful, but okay.
.
.

Venus (Satoshi Urushihara)
Another artbook by this one, this time full-color. Very nice drawings from around mid-’90s, where the girls still were cute, the men were coarse and the evil ones had bulky, useless, cyborg-ish things on their body^^
You’ll also encounter lots tender skin here :D
On the other hand, if you know one, you’ll most likely know them all, as his style is very similar mostly. If you still want more, search for e.g. “Ragnarok City” (I wont post it here).
.
.

One Piece (Eiichiro Oda) – various
Color Walk 01
Color Walk 02
Color Walk 03
some color spreads
.
.

Akira Club (Katsuhiro Otomo)
Some of you may remember i posted this a while ago, a really nice Akira artbook, with lots of different stuff in there.
by the way, the live action film has been cancelled apparantly :)
.
.

Berserk Illustration Book (Kentaro Miura)
.
.

One Day by Benjamin
Its half a one-shot and half an artbook, am trying to find his other stuff.
Again, i posted this before. Some really nice colour art here.
[RabbitReich & Illuminati]
.
.

Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex Calendar 2003
Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex Log 1 (Masamune Shirow)
Some GitS bits & pieces i found on the artbook section on Rippers (Crazy’s other group)
.
.

Yoshitaka Amano – Mono
Part 1
Part 2
[DPG]
A nice black & white Amano artbook, no i didnt get my nick from here :P
.
.

Studio Ghibli Calendars 96-01
Nice wide colour pics from a few ghibli animes
.
.
.
.

Bleach – All Color But The Black (Kubo Tite)
Rukia! Chad! Kon! Its really them! They have actual screentime here!^^
.
.

Ogure Ito Stuff
Not an artbook, Urameshi-sama from Jcafe gave me this collection of the nice chapter art and most of the nice double pages from Tenjou Tenge, and some from Air Gear. Ito’s girls are drawn so well ;)
.
.

(Takehiko Inoue)

Great post – any chance of a Hiroaki Samura artbook? I'm pretty sure he has one, but I've never been able to find it….
August 1st, 2009 at 10:45 AM
hi red jack,
samura has worked on an artbook, but it was a ero-guro one… i did have it, see if i can find it again, but i probably cannot post it here due to its nature……..
AND thanks a lot everyone for all the nice comments :)
we thought that this post would go down well

I figured out the error in the Laupta artbook-file, it should work now if you follow the instructions.
And I added "Art of Kiki's Delivery Service", right unter Laputa. I was finally able to get it, longest wait ever. Unfortunalety, it has a glitch, music works fine, but some pictures aren't.
Thanks guys, very nice to hear you like our work!! :D
@Red Jack: I didn't find one at my usual places, maybe mono knows more…
edit: ah, too late already^^
August 1st, 2009 at 10:59 AM

Nice to see people liked this post :)
btw I looked for Hiroaki Samura artbook when Red Jack mention it and I found it somewhere but …..exactly what mono said, really not suitable here, extremely violent,ero-guro is definitely not for me.
August 3rd, 2009 at 3:40 PM
artbook is called "bitches life", and had art from lots of mangaka
there is some art pages in one of his one-shots, but of a similar tone, i have a feeling they might even be collected from the artbook…. but im not 100% sure
i think theyre in "night of the succubus"
if you like samura anyway, you should grab some of his one-shots
a collection is on this post: (my first ;), including a few nice art pages from each oneshot HERE
August 3rd, 2009 at 2:48 PM
Thanks for looking guys; I had no idea that it was 'ero-guro'. I've only seen the cover (which doesn't imply anything like that, iirc), and a description in Japanese. I guess that I shouldn’t be surprised though, really, after reading BotI v.11…
